On October 27, 1999, Huhu's mother went to Tiananmen Square to tell the Chinese government leaders that Falun Gong is good. Because she spoke out, she was severely beaten by the police and arrested. They sent her to jail without giving her a lawyer. She was released after one and a half years in jail.
While Huhu's mother was in jail, his father also went to Tiananmen Square to ask for the release of his innocent wife and all of the other Falun Gong practitioners who had been arrested. Since he spoke out like Huhu's mother, he was detained for one month and then sent to a labor camp. Later he was able to serve his prison sentence outside of the labor camp.
When Huhu's mother was released from jail, she wrote a letter about the very bad treatment she had received there. Huhu and his parents were forced to leave their home to avoid the persecution of Falun Gong. The police continued to track them and even watched Huhu's grandparents' house. Soon the police captured his parents and Huhu has not seen them since. He is now cared for by a friend.
