The Petals of Peace initiative was inspired by the heart-rending story of a 3-year-old Chinese-Australian girl named Fadu. Fadu and her mother (pictured on the left) are overcoming their painful family tragedy by bravely sharing their heartfelt story in the hope that other innocent children will no longer have to suffer like Fadu.
Fadu’s family embraces the values of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance, principles that are the basis of the peaceful practice of Falun Gong. Due to the ongoing persecution in China, however, Fadu’s father tragically lost his life.
In the three short years of little Fadu’s life, she has traveled to more countries than most of us would hope to cover in our entire lifetime! Fadu has accompanied her mother, Jane Dai, to over 30 countries around the world. Each journey has been for the same purpose – to tell the story of Fadu’s father, Chengyong Chen, a gentle man who lost his life in China simply for embracing the values of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance. Together they continue to raise awareness of the injustice against the millions of Falun Gong practitioners in China, in the hope that they can help bring the suffering to an end.
Fadu’s dad wrote a letter to the Appeals Office in Beijing explaining how the practice had benefited their family and that it is a misunderstanding and injustice to ban such a peaceful practice. Shortly after he wrote the letter, authorities came to Fadu’s house and arrested her dad. She never saw him again. Concerned about Fadu’s safety, Jane returned with Fadu back to Australia anxiously awaiting news of her husband. In July 2001, after months of wondering if her husband was safe, Jane discovered the heartbreaking news on an Internet news report. Sadly, 3-year-old Fadu will never know her dad.
